Jerome L. Kaplan
Mr. Kaplan is Of Counsel with the firm. He joined Stone & Baxter in 2005 after having been a partner in the Macon office of Arnall Golden Gregory LLP for approximately 20 years. He has concentrated his practice primarily on commercial, corporate, and insolvency issues, including bankruptcy.
Mr. Kaplan has been awarded an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. In 1993, he received the honor of being inducted into the American College of Bankruptcy. He was also named a “Georgia Super Lawyer” by Atlanta Magazine in 2004 and 2005 for his work in Bankruptcy & Workouts. He was also included in the 2005-2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.
Mr. Kaplan is a graduate of the University of Georgia (B.B.A. 1956) and of the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University (JD 1961). He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Mercer Law Review.
Mr. Kaplan is a member of the American Bar Association, the Macon Bar Association, and the State Bar of Georgia. He is the author of Georgia Corporation Law, Kaplan’s Nadler Ed., 1971, 1979, 1988, 1989, and 1990. He was also the author of the 1966 Supplement to Nadler, The Law of Debtor Relief. From 1989 to the present, Mr. Kaplan has been a co-author of Georgia Corporations, Limited Partnerships & Limited Liability Companies, Kaplan’s Nadler Edition, 1989-2006.
Mr. Kaplan was the Chairperson of the State Bar of Georgia’s Legal Economics Committee in 1973-74 and the Chairperson of the State Bar of Georgia’s Prepaid Legal Services Committee in 1974-76. He has been an adjunct professor at Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University on the topics of Creditor’s Rights & Debtor’s Remedies (1968) and Business Reorganizations (1991). Mr. Kaplan is a Fellow in both the Georgia Bar Foundation and the American College of Bankruptcy.
Mr. Kaplan is admitted to practice in the State and Appellate Courts of Georgia, United States District Courts for the Middle, Northern, and Southern Districts of Georgia, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Claims Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
